Another PSG Player Goes Down With a Hamstring Injury

When it rains it pours.

Late on Wednesday afternoon, Paris Saint-Germain released a statement on the club’s official website that revealed Idrissa Gueye felt hamstring pain and tests revealed a contracture. The club expects the Senegal international to be out for 10 days.

This is the second hamstring injury suffered by one of PSG’s star players over the international break. Neymar Jr. limped off the pitch last Sunday in a match between Brazil and Nigeria and tests revealed he would be out for four weeks according to PSG’s medical team.

Gueye, who was on international duty with Senegal and actually played Neymar’s Brazil in Singapore last week, has been nothing short of incredible since arriving last summer from Everton FC for €32 million per ESPN. The stats speak for themselves:

Ten days isn’t too bad considering some of the other lengthy injuries the club is dealing with at the moment, but it means that Gueye will miss the match against OGC Nice on Friday and likely the away match against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League. PSG should be able to cover for his absence and this is one of the main reasons sporting director was so active in last summer’s transfer window adding depth to the squad.

Ander Herrera could be available to play alongside Marco Verratti and Marquinhos. There’s also Leandro Paredes who could step in and get the job done against both Nice and Brugge. Tuchel has some options to go with while Gueye rests his hamstring. PSG will want to give him plenty of time to recover as I don’t believe the club can win the Champions League without him. He’s that important.
