Match in Photos: Stands Set Ablaze as PSG Embarrass Real Madrid

Paris Saint-Germain’s dominating 3-0 win over Real Madrid last Wednesday at the Parc des Princes was about as good of a performance as we’ve seen in recent seasons. There was no weakness in PSG’s performance. They held the Spanish giants to zero shots on goal, completely bossed the midfield, and Angel Di Maria led the attack with a brace. Oh, this was all without their big three of Neymar Jr., Edinson Cavani, and Kylian Mbappé.

With several starters watching from the stands, the players who were available put in a shift that will be the benchmark for all future performances in the UEFA Champions League. Manager Thomas Tuchel’s bold move to start Presnel Kimpembe and move Marquinhos to the midfield proved to be a stroke of genius. Combined with Marco Verratti and Idrissa Gueye, the midfield trio outclassed their counterparts and it wasn’t even close. PSG was quicker to the ball, stronger in the air, and more decisive in their finishing. Well, maybe not that decisive. They could have easily scored five or six if not for some poor shooting.

There’s no time for complacency though. PSG face a difficult trip to Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday. This fixture is one we as supporters always circle on our calendar and it will be interesting to see what kind of performance we see from Tuchel’s squad following an emotional victory. Neymar should play and we should expect a very hostile atmosphere as the Brazilian is making his first road appearance in Ligue 1 this season.

There’s plenty of time to talk about that match though. Let’s look back at some of the top photos from Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-0 win over Real Madrid.
