Video: Road Trip to Lille Goes Horribly Wrong

You really have to feel for PSG Talk contributor Lee Davey (@LeeDavey99). In the short time that he’s been producing videos for us, he’s been in the crowd for the two most devastating losses of the season. There was the 3-1 loss to Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League that knocked PSG out of the competition and then Sunday’s humiliating loss to Lille OSC 5-1 at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

The loss won’t do much in terms of the Ligue 1 table, PSG will likely clinch their eighth league title on Wednesday against FC Nantes, but it was one of the worst losses of the Qatar Sports Investments-era. You have to go back to 2000 for the last time PSG allowed that many goals in French competition.

Injuries and a red card decision from the ref played a huge role in the first half but the players simply didn’t play well enough to win or even get a result. The chips were stacked against PSG and they fell apart against an in-form Lille side who sit in second place and have several players who will be leaving for much bigger clubs this summer.

Lee traveled to Lille full of confidence but by halftime, you can see the worry start to set in. The cracks have been showing for some time and it was inevitable that someone would embarrass the team. Perhaps most concerning is how the players on the pitch gave up after going down a couple of goals. The second half of the season has been atrocious and we should see a real reaction this summer.

Follow along as Lee takes you from the pre-match atmosphere around Lille to in the stadium with the traveling PSG supporters, and stick around until the end for his post-match thoughts.
