PSG Small Talk Podcast: Paris Lucky to Defeat FC Nantes + Neymar Invisible?

Paris Saint-Germain relied on a host of fluky goals to defeat FC Nantes 4-1 at the Parc des Princes on Saturday. Edinson Cavani’s brace led the way and Angel Di Maria and Javier Pastore chipped in to see PSG move six points clear at the top of the table.

On the latest episode of PSG Small Talk, host Marc Damon breaks down the action against Les Canaris and why he believes this was one of Unai Emery’s worst coaching performances since he arrived in 2016. It all has to do with the Spaniard’s lineup and lack of tactical awareness throughout the match. Starting Pastore in the midfield with Adrien Rabiot and Marco Verratti left the squad unbalanced due to the Argentine’s affinity for joining the attack. Nantes head coach Claudio Ranieri was able to take advantage with substitutions and if not for several lucky goals that bounced PSG’s way, the game could have been a lot tighter than it was.

Then, Damon takes issue with the language some use to describe Neymar Jr.’s performance. Saying the Brazilian was “invisible” feeds into the narrative that he is unhappy at the club and doesn’t feel challenged by Ligue 1 teams. The opposite is true actually. Ligue 1 is better than he thought when he arrived and on some nights he will not be able to waltz around the park and do whatever he wants.

Finally, Damon reads a note that came into PSG Talk HQ about Les Parisiens potentially winning their UEFA Champions League group.
