Match Preview: PSG Can Catch Monaco With Win Over Angers

Paris Saint-Germain have a change to apply pressure to AS Monaco on Friday as they take on Angers SCO at the Stade Raymond Kopa. A win would see the capital club draw level on points with the league leaders until their match against Dijon FCO on Saturday.

Given their tumultious mid-week UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, there’s a decent chance Monaco could drop points this weekend so its imperative that Unai Emery has his team motivated and ready to put in a solid performance.

This trip to Angers is very important; the players are aware of that and have prepared well. Angers are having a good run right now, and they’re a tough side to move around when they play at home.–Unai Emery, PSG.fr

Angers sit mid-table and have three wins in their last five matches. Stéphane Moulin’s squad are in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France with a decent chance of advancing to the finals as they take on EA Guingamp on April 25. Angers may have one eye on that match, which would benefit PSG, but every loss for the reigning French champions this season has been on the road so anything can happen.

Missing from the match for PSG is Layvin Kurzawa and Julian Draxler due to injury. Hatem Ben Arfa, who may be returning to Nice this summer, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Thiago Silva, and Jean-Kevin Augustin will all be out as well. There is still enough quality in the squad though to hopefully record a second win over Angers this season (2-0 win last November).

Starting XI Prediction

(4-3-3) Trapp; Maxwell, Kimpembe, Marquinhos, Aurier; Matuidi, Pastore, Verratti; Lucas, Cavani, Di Maria

Keep an eye on Edinson Cavani. The striker has been in blistering form all season and has scored 42 goals in all competitions (just 8 short of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s record 50 goals from last season). Look for the Uruguayan to be celebrating early and often against Angers.

Score Prediction

Angers 1-4 PSG
