Match Preview: Bordeaux Clash Presents PSG Route to French League Cup Final

Paris Saint-Germain face FC Girondins de Bordeaux on Tuesday with a place in the Coupe de la Ligue finals on the line. Despite having won the competition more than any other club in France, including the past three years, the match could prove difficult for PSG.

Bordeaux come into the match in decent form in terms of results. They’ve gone unbeaten in their last five matches, including three wins. PSG meanwhile are in the best form of the season having won five straight competitive matches and scoring 17 goals and conceding zero during that span.

Both sides already met at the Parc des Princes in a league match earlier in the season, with PSG dominating the game in one of the best performances so far and walked away with a 2-0 victory. Les Parisiens will definitely be looking for more of the same. Thankfully, Edinson Cavani, who bagged a brace in that game back in October, finally appears to have regained his form against FC Nantes on Saturday. El Matador will be one of those PSG will be counting on to perform well and carry them into the finals of the Coupe de la Ligue.

Unfortunately, Unai Emery will be without a number of first team players, including Julian Draxler, Jean-Kevin Augustin, and Jesé Rodriguez, who all picked up injuries recently. Also missing the trip to Bordeaux is injury-plagued duo Javier Pastore and Grzegorz Krychowiak. Thiago Motta, while healthy, will miss the match due to an accumulation of yellow cards.

Starting XI Prediction

4-2-3-1: Areola; Meunier, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Kurzawa; Rabiot, Verratti; Di Maria, Ben Arfa, Nkunku; Cavani.

With so many players missing, Emery is definitely forced into rotating the squad and we may see a change in formation to cope with the absentees. It wouldn’t surprise me to see new boy Giovani Lo Celso handed a brief cameo off the bench.

Score Prediction

Bordeaux 0-2 PSG
