Match in Photos: Draxler Debut and Seven Goals Against Bastia

It was a dream start to 2017 for Paris Saint-Germain as they throttled SC Bastia 7-0 on Saturday at the Parc des Princes to reach the round of 32 of the Coupe de France.

Supporters had to be patient at the start but after Thiago Silva’s header in the 31st minute to put PSG up 1-0, the goals came pouring in. There were seven different goalscorers, including youngster Christopher Nkunku, Thiago Motta, Lucas Moura, Angel Di Maria, and Adrien Rabiot, who returned after a lengthy injury spell. New signing Julian Draxler came on in the 58th minute for Rabiot and scored at the stroke of full time to complete a memorable first appearance in a PSG shirt.

The win will do wonders for the team’s confidence, which they desperately needed after a poor first half of the season. Prior to the 5-0 win over FC Lorient to close out 2016, Unai Emery was on the hot seat (and may still be) and Di Maria was so poor that it appeared he may be sold to a team in the Chinese Super League. All that seems to have changed after a complete team performance against Bastia. The only downside was Silva’s injury before halftime but Emery insisted after the match that it’s not serious.
