Wonderful podcast gentleman, however there were a few things that I feel should have been touched on. The first being the decrepitude of Motta. I personally don’t think the match vs Dijon was great. We were fortunate to benefit from an OG and a PK. Had those two things not happened the match could have been very difficult. One of the main reasons was Motta’s inefficient and lethargic performance. I have said this before on other platforms but the midfield should always include either Krychowiak or Matuidi at all times. It’s great to have creativity and flare in the middle of the park, but it should always be coupled with industry. Whenever Motta is playing deep and both of the aforementioned henchmen are absent there is a clear difference in our level, as the spine of the team looks very vulnerable, #Monaco. I’d love to see Motta fazed out and see Caliagari eased in as he can legit ball and his vision is insane!
Also no mention of Augustin and his performance vs Caen. He was revelatory, in just under a half hour he contributed a goal an assist in the thrashing. Much more effective than HBA has been thus far and showed that in the first half of the campaign he can certainly be considered Cavani’s no. 2. It’s clear he’s certainly a factor in Ben Arfa’s banishment, especially since Emery elected to put him on the pitch ahead of Jesé in the puddle of hopelessness that was the Toulouse match.
