Mbappé Could See €39M Transfer Value Increase With an Extension

It’s no secret that Kylian Mbappé is the future of football. If Paris Saint-Germain ever decided to sell the 21-year-old before the end of his contract in 2022, it’s expected that the transfer fee would dwarf the €222 million the Ligue 1 champions paid for Neymar Jr. in 2017.

However, if Les Parisiens can extend Mbappé’s contract, his transfer value would increase as well. According to CIES Football Observatory, PSG would add €39 million to Mbappé’s already €242 million worth. The total value of the player with an extension would sit at €281 million.

If a club ever decided that they wanted to purchase Mbappé, like I don’t know, Real Madrid, the Spanish club would have to pay approximately €300 million for PSG to even consider striking a deal. PSG wouldn’t be lowering the price for any team at this point.

The first choice is obvious; sign Mbappé to an extension. That gives the club the most flexibility. If he’s unwilling to commit, PSG will likely have to sell the Frenchman next summer as he would be entering the final year of his contract and there’s no way PSG can allow an asset of Mbappé’s value leave on a free transfer.
