Many Fans Agree With PSG’s Decision to Not Extend Silva’s Contract

The week started with the bombshell news that Paris Saint-Germain will not offer Thiago Silva a contract extension.

PSG’s captain will be free to leave the club on June 30, or, sign a temporary extension so that he can participate with the club in the UEFA Champions League when it resumes in August.

Since arriving from AC Milan in 2012, Silva has racked up more than 300 appearances for Les Parisiens and has been a consistent force in PSG’s defense.

Unfortunately, the realities of Silva’s age (35) and €1.5 million gross monthly salary played a major role in PSG not offering him an extension.

It’s never easy to say goodbye to a legend so I asked my followers on Twitter what they thought of the decision and the voting is closer than I would have expected.

With more than 350 votes, “Agree with the decision” to not extend Silva is in the lead with 44 percent, and “PSG will regret it” is second with 34.2 percent. Surprisingly, “indifferent” has 21.7 percent of the vote. The poll will close tomorrow so it will be interesting to see how things finish.
